Based out of Cedar Falls, Iowa, the NIPL is composed of eight legitimate Gym Leaders, as well as an Elite Four. Challenges are open to all Generation IV trainers (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver).
Debuting at AnimeIowa, you may attend our panel to get all of the information, and the entire con is fair game for challenges. You can find League members ready to battle with a pin that identifies them. Gym Leaders don their badge, and Elite Four will wear their rank out of four.
After that, you may challenge a Gym Leader at any time over wireless by getting their Friend Code. You can contact any member on the League Facebook group to get their Friend Code, or be receiving it during the panel. Keep in mind, all trainers are expected to abide by League rules, regardless of method of battle.
Challenges are very basic: Any trainer may challenge a League member to a single Pokémon battle. A Trainer who wins against a Gym Leader is awarded with a Badge Card, which shows the official badge, and the Leader’s name, type, and ID #. You will also be asked to sign a sheet that shows you have beaten a Gym Leader, which will be double-checked. The Gym Leaders may be faced in any order, as long as all 8 badges are eventually acquired.
The Elite Four challenge is standard: all five members must be faced in order without any changes made to the team. Before the challenge is taken, you must register your team with any Gym Leader; each Pokemon must be listed with: species, level, gender, ability, held item, stats, and moveset.
Only non-legendary Pokémon may be used. We also ban the use of all Pokémon hacked or modified using hacks or glitches, including but not limited to PokéSav and related programs. Anyone who breaks these rules will find themselves placed soundly on our ban list.
The first trainer to successfully defeat the Champion will find themselves the proud owner of a
Shiny Eevee infected with the Pokérus!
Trainers are expected to oblige to League members checking their challenging team for illegal Pokémon before or after a challenge. And lastly, try not to be a sore loser! This isn’t your dad’s Pokémon League. Only the elite few will be able to fight their way to the top! All the others will have to deal with defeat!
Challenges will still be open during the entire con if you can find us. And after our debut, the League remains open, and trainers can find us and challenge us whenever possible. We hope people will be excited about this, and use this chance to really step up their skill levels, as beating us will be no easy task!

Instead of handing out badges, we hand out little trainer cards that have our name, type, trainer ID, and a picture of our badge. At the same time, whenever someone beats a gym, we ask them to print and/or sign their name on a paper we have that we can always double check. We'll explain everything at the panel, and you'll also be able to find us by finding people wearing their badge on their outfit.
Here's what qualifies as legendary Pokemon:
